A Satchel Shadow project is designing for 90 percent of people who do not have access to services and supplies as the others. Designing something from upcycled material needed research about what I am going to work on and find information about people need. I decided to make a satchel out of juice packs since they are strong enough to carry weights and can be found a lot. I also used rice pack thread, which I usually reap and throw away, for sewing the juice packs and trash bag threads for the handle. The concept is poverty since poverty is the main reason that most of the people do not have access to services and supplies. Poverty brings the picture of begging hands in my mind but after some sketches I decided designing the satchel the way that one hand grasp another. I designed the hands to be to the flap since the flap gets in touch when ever one is opening or closing the satchel and grasp more attention than the other parts. The whole satchel is plain to represent the poverty because poverty has no color in my mind. One begging hand on the flap which is the same color as the whole satchel represent poverty while the other contrasting hand which is grasping the begging one is colorful representing the other ten percent of the people having access to services and supplies.
